Suitable weight for breeding.

Hi

What would be the best weight for both female and male Sonoran gophers to breed?

Thank you.

I hate giving weights and or sizes for breeding animals. They can be so variable for any of the colubrids we all work with. The biggest thing is maturity of the breeders. Personally we use a minimum of three years old and decent size/weight for animals of that age. With some of our pits though it take a full 4 years before we even try to breed them. Some due to slow starts, ill-regular feeding habits etc. Our deppei deppei and deppei jani, capes and a few of the others it is always at least 4 years old before we try. Bottom line err on the side of being very conservative for the animals sake.

Hope that helps,

Hi

Thank you for reply. Unfortunately I have a pair of wild caught Sonoran Gophers. I live outside USA and do not have ready access to reptiles to choose from, especially captive bred ones. I simply don’t know how old these Sonorans are, so if you can share some other guidelines of sexual maturity, I’ll appreciate.

Thank you.
