What size tank for a 6-8 ft snake?

stkkts Jul 08, 2003 11:08 AM

I am considering a Jungle carpet python, or columbian boa. I believe both get in the 6 - 8 ft range. How large of an enclosure would these animals need? would they be better in an arboreal setup? or would they need something that is big, but not high? thanks in advance for your help.

Not too familiar with carpet python setups, but a colombian boa should have a 4x2 minimum cage, height isn't very important - people use cages as little as 12" in height, but taller would be easier to work with. Wood or plastic cages with doors on the front are better than aquarium-style glass tanks - it's easier to hold the heat and humidity, and easier to get the snake in and out of the cage.

My JCP's love to climb, so I'd really recommend something with branches for them.

I have a 7ft Carpet and she is in a 3'X2.5'x2.5' waiting for her new 6'x4'x3'. the 3'x2.5 is small for her, but she likes it....she gets let out all the time....something with branches would be best and big enough for them to spread out at least 3/4 their length
