Black Ratsnake pic that you should enjoy

bam171bam Mar 03, 2005 07:09 PM

These are both yearling Rusty black ratsnakes. The one on the right is what my brother and I produced (WITHOUT using a rusty ratsnake). Let us know what you think.

Where Leucistics involved in producing any of those? Poss. Het. Leucistics??

I see that your question was not answered, but I can tell you that the leucistic trait is not involved in this morph.

The leucistic trait is a recessive one that causes the animal to not produce chromatophores (color producing pigment cells). It is not like one of the albino forms, where the snake does have all of its chromatophores in its skin, but they are producing little or no pigment.

I have a question: What would happen if a leucistic were bred with a regular, would the offspring show incomplete dominance or would it just be a het for leucistic? Thanks!

The trait seems to be expressed as all or nothing.

I don't know why we always seem to disagree on the isssues regarding the Leucistic trait Elaphefan but the The Het. Leucsitic Ball Pythons, Het. Leucsitic Rainbow Boas, & Het. Leucsitic Black Ratsnakes are a lighter version of the wild-type. Seems as if there IS a visual marker for Het. leucistics in some species. In other words, Het. Leucistic Black Rat = Rusty.....

One of the parents was a leucistic. Unfortunately I lost her over this cooling season. I have no clue why. That's the bad part of this hobby...

They both are sweet...like Mike I think he is from luecy breeding..if so is it possible that the guy on the right is a marker for luecistic!!!!!!!!?
