Would a 14 x 6 x 9 shoe box work?

hspadix Mar 03, 2005 07:39 PM

Hello, I would really like to get a leopard gecko for my apartment. I was wondering if a shoe box with the following dimensions would work: (l,h,w) 14 x 6 x 9? Any comments would be appreciated.

that size would be good for a juvenile leo. An adult would need more space. the suggested min for an adult leo is 20x10x10.

A shoe box would work, but did you know that leopard gecko's also need a source of heat? They need heat, lowest temp should be about 80 degrees in the cool end. I'm not really sure a shoe box would stand up good against heat.

However, you could go get a Rubber Maid tub of some sort, and just get a 10 gallon cage lid so you can set the heat on it.

Also, if you have a Petsmart near you, they sell 10 gallon tanks for $10. Not bad, then all you have to do is buy a heat bulb there (150 watt) and go to Lowes, Home Depot or Walmart, and buy a light fixture for it (not one for a ceiling, but one like you see at petstores, they sell for cheap over at home improvement stores and they last just as long).
