skeletal(sp) structure...........

goini04 Mar 03, 2005 09:44 PM

Just wondering if anyone knows of any good sources to find information about crocodilian skeletal structure? I googled, but I didn't really come across anything, however, it is perfectly possible that I overlooked something.

Thanks,
Stan

There is a lack of good anatomical books for reptiles. Good news though as there is a really comprehensive one in the works and I believe it is scheduled for release this year sometime. I think Dr. Mader has a part in it, but can't for sure remember the authors. Perhaps keep in touch with your herp vet for when it comes out.

In last months issue of reptiles magazine someone asked for good book suggestions with reptilian anatomy. Dr Mader suggested a whole ton of books, im sure you culd probably find the article yourself, but here are a few titles he suggested...

Chiasson, R. B. 1962. The Laboratory Anatomy of the Alligator.

Mader, D.R. 1996. Reptile Medicine and Surgery.

He listed a few others, but they mostly were specifically about other reptiles, not crocs. He also stated that there is a book in the works dedicated strictly to reptile anatomy!

If you googled, please clean it up off the floor so no one else steps in it. Thank you.

The University of Texas has a "DigiMorph" program that shows an a. mississippiensis skull articulation. Pretty cool stuff. I wish they had it for the entire skeletal structure. You can check it out here:

That's pretty awesome. I really liked it. I actually set that picture as my wallpaper:D. If you happen to come across anything else related to their skeletal structure I would appreciate the heads up.

Thx,
Stan
