Problem with gravid boa.....Has this happened to anyone!

russlockenwitz Jul 08, 2003 12:01 PM

Well she was due on 7/5/....I check he on the 3rd and sure enough she had deposited one baby but none of the others....The baby was perfect in every way......Well I was expecting more babies within the next few hours but to my dismay there were none.....So I am waiting patiently.....Has this ever happened to anyone and what were the end results?

Thanks for your advice ahead of time!

It hasn't happened here but I have heard of it happening to others. The outcome ranges from everything fine to disappointment.

Good luck with that!

Many years ago I had an Argentine boa that appeared to go into labor but never gave birth to anything. I waited over a month before taking her to my vet. She seemed to be way past due and after examining her with ultrasound imaging we decided to do exploratory surgery. Turned out she had ruptured both oviducts and had fetuses free floating in her coelom. I was amazed that she was still alive. Took four hours of surgery to remove 25 dead fetuses and stitch up her oviducts. We were not able to determine what went wrong.

Mine was obviously the worse case senario, however, if your female does not lay anymore babies in the next few days I would recommend getting her to a vet with an ultrasound machine.

I have never experienced that but I would start misting her. Maybe that will get her moving around and loosen things up. I usually start misting my gravid boas right around their due dates. It can't hurt.
