My Golden Gecko Just Laid An Egg

stano40 Mar 04, 2005 06:52 PM

When I wasn't looking one of the golden geckos laid an egg on the aquarium glass near the top. The egg seems to be fertile. It is a sharp white in color with an indent on the top.

Bad news is that the egg is in with 3 other goldens. I don't know between the mom and the other three if the egg is safe. I am assuming that if the egg hatch's the baby could be in jeopardy of being eaten.

Looking for information on how long it takes the egg to hatch and/or any advise on maintaining the integrity of the egg and the hatchling.

One of the goldens who may be the mom is hanging around near the egg. Don't know at this time if it is a male or female.

I have been giving them dusted crickets (dusted with Rep-cal and reptivite), baby food consistency pears and apple mixture and wax worms/meal worms. The aquarium has two heat sources (one a uvb and the other a basking).

Any advise in the matter will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

To avoid the hatchling from being snacked on by the others you can try this old phelsuma trick: tape a small paper cup over the egg and put some very small holes in it to allow air exchange.

Congratulations and good luck.
