Feeding?

DragonMaster Jul 08, 2003 12:13 PM

Is it ok to feed my tegu raw meats (chicken, beef, fish, etc)
What's the best? This is my first and i've had snakes for years but i've found this guy to be a little different. It's a Columbian Black and White....don't know the sex or age, just named it goliath. It's temperment isn't bad, sometimes it doesn't like to be caught and runs from one end of his cage to the other but it's not really hard to catch. When i do catch him sometimes it'll open up it's mouth like a warning but i just close it gently and tell him no and that's it lol. Then i can hold him and carry him all over the house or outside...it's like he just has to get that initial attitude in. I keep refering to it as a he but if it's a girl i don't believe that it will hold any hard feelings lol. I'll post a pic of it prob tonight when my wife gets home i can't find the camera but anyway any info would be helpful, i've been to almost every website reading about tegus, from agama to the littlest home sites. i just like new and different opinions

TY

You indicated that you have been to other tegu sites - so I am assuming that the foods mentioned in your post are not the only items you plan on offering. Chicken or fish that has been previously frozen for a minimum of 72 hours can be fed raw. My personal opinion, avoid beef altogethter - others may think differently. If you are feeding chicken, parboil it and then cool it prior to feeding. With fish, fresh thawed should be fine. If you offer eggs, you eliminate the possibility of problems (and runny stools) by cooking them.

I was just wanting to get the full spectrum....basically to see what everybody finds is better in their eyes to feed them. Thanks for the info, it's much appreciated!!
