I caught this crazy beast in the south this summer. (the only snake I kept BTW) From the day I got him home-he (or she) eats anything and everything offered.
He was going crazy one day while we were feeding the mouse eaters (ratsnakes and kings)-so I offered him a mouse-he grabbed it out of my hand and ate it right down-I no longer put my hand in his tank but to clean him BTW because he tries to eat the clenning tools and my hands and just anything.
This seems like very odd behavior-I've had many gartersnakes in the past-but never one from the SC. Problem is he also tries to eat other snakes. He even lunged at my cat!
I tried to cool him down but he seems uneffected by lower temps. he's just as active and aggressive and hungry at 65 as he is at 85 degrees.
Is this normal for southern caught eastern garters? I've had him since July and he's doing more than well. I have never seen a garter eat like this before!!! I thought he'd be an interesting snake to breed - he has nice green/blue markings - but I'm afraid to put anything in with him (or her)
Any thoughts on this?
