Pueblan Milk Snake ???

kathysfancy Mar 05, 2005 12:39 AM

Hello I am new to the snake world and right now I am trying to identify this snake that I now find myself in possesion of. The only snake I can find online that looks anything close to this one is the Pueblan Milk snake, yet the local petstore says its a corn snake, searching cornsnakes I can find nothing that looks even close. How I aquired this snake without knowing what kind it is you may ask well thats a funny story.. I recieved this pretty snake in a bag of forest floor bedding that I had purchased for my tree frogs, I was pouring out some bedding and out came this snake imagine my surprise!!! I would appreciate anyones help in identifing this beauty, it looks very much like the Pueblan except its orange, dark red and black banded all the way around. I have some pictures but have no idea how to post it here.

Thank you Kathy

Hey gang,

these are the pics from Kathy (a bit fuzzy but pics none-the-less). I cropped them to get rid of the non-important background to save on file size and tried to sharpen them a bit, but this is as good as they get at the moment. You can get the general idea of the snake, kinda resembles an apricot pueblan to me, but I'm no expert. I'll host the pics for you Kathy, hopefully someone else here can help you out with the positive ID. I did my part for the good of the board by editing / hosting / posting the pics, now it's you other guys turn to finish helping Kathy out with her dilema.......

Dan.

Good Things,

I just wanted to say thank you to all of those who helped me out... Now that I know what kind of snake I have, I am more willing to keep "her". I guess I will have to find someone locally to help figure out the sex but until then I will refer to this cutie as a "her". Thank you again ... especially to Colubrid-aphilia for hosting my pictures

How do you find the tempermeant of that little jewel? Does he mostly hide can you handle him? I am eyeing pueblans as I love their look.
Thanks

I got my pueblan because I love the looks, too. When it was a baby, it was prone to biting...chewed and drew blood. Now that he's older, he doesn't bite anymore. However, he is spastic and nervous and more concerned with escaping than anything else...I suspect that being a small creature with no arms or legs and brilliant colors brings out this behavior. He is more of a chore than a joy to handle. This is a beautiful animal, a great eater and is small for a milk, but as far as temperament goes, my ball python puts him to shame. Keep in mind that any species of reptile has variations in temperament between individuals. Also keep in mind that when you get a milksnake, you are looking at a possible 20 year committment.

This little baby is a real sweetie... we have been able to handle her without a single problem ..she does hide alot but every now and then we get to see her. Her temperment is very mild, hasnt tried to bite, but she has used my hand as a restroom lol I think she is a great snake!!!!
