Bizzare egg laying pictus gecko

eryxboa Mar 05, 2005 10:58 AM

I woke up this morning to find that my 3 or four year old pictus gecko laid an egg(she still looks gravid). The only problem is is that she has not been around another gecko for at least two years. Do pictus geckos ever just randomly lay eggs. She has been kept in good condition for the past few years, and she just seemed to lay an egg today. She has laid once before, but those were from a true mating. I was wondering if these geckos may be able to be parthogenetic if they go without a mate? Or do geckos sometimes just lay infertile eggs like hens do??
Any input would help, and ill incubate the egg just for fun to see what happens.

I bought a pictus a few months ago and was told it was a male...but then found an egg in the humid hide last week!
Turns out he is a she! And she was housed with 3 other pictus' when I bought her, so i'm assuming one was male.
The only info. I can find about them storing sperm says the basic "these geckos can store sperm for future use"..but I haven't been able to find out for how long.
Let me know what happens with the egg..and if you find out any info. about this.
