My RES constipated

vujadinp Mar 05, 2005 11:03 AM

Dear community,

I have a problem without a clue how to solve it. It seems like a simple problem but I do not want to do anything that would compromize health of my Sracko.
He stopped pooping about a week ago, and the reason why i think he is constipated is because he tries very hard (if you ever saw a dog constipated, he looks like that too), stuff comes out, HUGE, obviously because nothing came out for a week, but after a few minutes it comes back in. I do not know if I should help him fizically or give hime some sort of laxative.

I have heard to put the turtle in warm??? water and it will take care of itself????. Not sure if I can believe that.

In any case, I bet he is not heeling good, soi I need solutions asap from fellow res keepers.

Thank you in advance.

Um, do you mean a large black mass comes out of your RES, and then after a few minutes it goes back in? If so, let me calm you fears

That is called fanning, that huge mass is his penis. There is nothing wrong with your turtle

As for pooping, if it makes you feel better I haven't seen my turtles poop in 5 years...but I know they do it

Thanks for quick response.

His penis???? It looks irregular and black like his waste. He is sexually trying to persuade the female (who is still small and different type, Florida cooter). He is putting his forearms in front of his head and shaking them in front of her face, I am assuming they are male and female because of this response.

Sorry for this many posts

It comes out of his anus????

Yes, thats right.

My male turtles do it at each other, along with the claw fluttering bit, it doesn't mean your other turtle is a female.

I've heard that male turtles will do the fanning with their front feet even to rocks shaped like turtles and male turtles. Mine does it all the time, and as for the penis, it comes out the Cloaca (Cloaca: Cavity which serves as intestinal, urinary, and genital tract in Reptiles, amphibians, birds, and fish.) My male likes to flash that thing around too... silly boys ; ) Rarely do i ever catch my turtles defecating, but as said in the last post, I KNOW they do = ) !!! Take care and good luck with your Turtles!
