What's your thought on the next cutting edge crested?

Rhacophile Mar 05, 2005 03:49 PM

I just wanted to write this post to find out what everybody from the breeders to the newbies thinks is on the horizon of the crested gecko. I personally think there are quiet a few realativelly unexplored possibilities out there. What do you think?

i think that crossing in color phases is always gonna be a hit. what i personally wish to see is a moonglow crossed with an animal like one of my girls , who has two red stripes running down her back. which would be sweet to have a white crested w red stripes. pin stripes will become even more awesome , not to mention more pricy , and probably as well as longer crest morphs , thats just my personal opinion. I feel harlequins will die down , and more solid colored animals will take their place, because to me harlequins have acheived all they can acheive , will solids have alot more that can be added to them. I wish some wild genetic diversity could be added in , because who knows what would happen then. just my 2 cents.

I am crossing my full pinstripe male with my NEON orange female! She is getting ready to lay her first batch of eggs. Also I am crossing the full pinstripe male with my olive females, my black and orange female, and my slate(what everyone calls "blue" female. I would like to see an albino this year. Oh-well, I should have some sweet stuff hatch this year though. Good luck to everyone else for this years breeding season!! Thanks Erik

I think the next big thing will be albinos i also think harleys will die down and some crazy one color geckos will be big. May be someone will breed one of those blue cresteds like the one in the reptiles usa a few years back lol

I have a couple pics of my "blue", slate crested geckos. I will take some more pics tonight and post them tomorrow! And if anyone produces albinos they will be popular as with PROVEN slate("blue" and olive("green". I will post pics of my olive and slates tomorrow though! Thanks Erik

here's a kinda crazy idea...what about breeding for size? getting a larger morph

genevieve Mar 05, 2005 09:42 PM

I would love to see some breeding for size! I would never have thought of that myself, and I think it is a great idea. I would love to see someone produce a HUGE, well- crested chocolate and white or harlequin Crested.

I feel that there are quite a few Cresteds out there with reduced cresting, and generally poor body shape. There has been plenty of focus on color, but not that much on morphology.

I think a huge, well marked, well crested Crested would be something awesome! Can anyone else imagine a stunning 16 inch Crested? I mean, we bred dogs up from 70 pound wolves to 210 pound mastiffs and wolfhounds, there is no reason it cant be done with the crested as well.

true. I do have a female that broke 50 grams before breeding! Now shes in the high 40's! Shes a big girl but has big babies! I wonder if there is a small crested gecko??

Cresteds still have huge potential on what may come from them as far as morphs. Each one is so uniquie as it is. It will be interesting to see what these guys evolve into with some more selective breeding over the years

Awesome gecko!! I would keep him/her just because he/she is so beautiful... and imagine the babies!!! But if you are selling him/her you could get a pretty penny for him/her... hahaha
