rudedogsurfrat Mar 05, 2005 04:50 PM

What is the best way to keep the eggs in with the mom or pull them out and put them in an incubator??

Less stress on the female & more time to get her back into shape.

INCUBATOR!!! If you let the mom incubate them some will die.

What? If the eggs are bad, they aren't going to hatch. Whether through a incubator or natural means. A incubator can't sense whats going on with temps and humidity like a Female can. Nor can a incubator change temps or humidity like a incubating Female can. Alot of people under estimate the instincts that these animals have. After all, they hatch in the wild don't they? All you have to do is give that Female a temperature and humidity range and she'll do the rest. I've also met quite a few Females ( Not just Aussie Pythons ) who won't eat untill a week or so after its clutch hatches, whether incubated naturally or artificial

With the proper cage setup for humidity and temp control, maternal incubation can be just as effective as an incubator. However, the key word is proper cage setup.

interesting.
So do you just put the female in the nest box with the clutch?

if you turn your entire enclosure into an incubator. Its much easier to use an incubator trust me.

If you would have fun watching the snake go through its instictive behaviors, Maternal Incubation might be a lot of fun to observe.

If maximizing survival is the goal, artificial incubation with quality thermostats, heat sources and humidity control has proven more effective.

I would recommend doing both. Take some of the eggs out before they adhere to each other and incubate some in an incubator and leave some for mom to wrap around.

Having fun doing it is the most important thing.
