I have a question abut color of Beardies

louiec Jul 08, 2003 12:56 PM

I have been lookin around... and I have noticed that some breeders have pics of their dragons on their sites... and some of these dragons are amazing colors... such as VERY VERY VERY all bright yellow or an all white (or white with pale yellow or pink).
I know there are more colors but those two are the ones that interest me the most... MY question is... how can I make sure that the dragon I purchase are on of these colors... I would like to purchase them at a young age... and I know that at a young age they dont usually show their true colors...

I have helped my brother take care of his two beardies (he also has two frillies that I help him with)... but I would like a beardie of my own... and I notice thru the many sheds... his beardies have changed colors (one of his beardies seemed to have more prominent markings at a few sheds ago)...

ok now I am just ranting...
SO
bottom line is:
how do I make sure that I get a BRIGHT (almost highlighter yellow) Yellow/citrus beardie or a snow/Leucistics beardie?

is there anyway to tell when they are young? anyone know of any good reputable breeders of these?

thanks in advance...

Lou

to look at the parents, talk to the breeder and buy a high color baby but its not a guarantee, even the brightest of parents can throw dull babies, and some dull parents will have the most colorful and then youll have light parents having babies with a lot of dark pigment or color ya just never know the best way to be sure you are getting the color you want is to buy an adult or at least sub-adult (youll get a better idea of color) but even then color can not be guaranteed...know that may not be too much help but guess its the best i can do, look at the parents and choose the baby that best suits your taste and then wait and see!

I got my snow from the source, Dragons den herp. Kevin is wounderfull to work with. And will get you what you want. many snows dont really get their true colors untill they are older. they lighten with every shed. Sometimes for a little more money you can get one like mine that shows nice whites already. As far as knowing your getting a snow , I would definitly go through Dragons Den. He developed the snow dragon and is a very respectable breeder. You get what you pay for. At least I did anyways. If you want one with some yellow on it too or possible orange then I would look in to Dragons By Nature. They have an awsome cross out I believe its snow x red. But from the pics they look more white and orange and yellow. And lets not forget Bearded Dragons and Other Creatures. If you give them a call letting them know what your looking for they will help you find it if they have it. All these places I mentioned are wounderfull to do buisness with. You have to be carefull because some retailers will claim their dragons are something they arent in order to sell them. Godd luck and let us know what you decide on.

peace,
nathan

Lou, Fire & Ice is another great source for beardies. I currently have purchased 3 from her and will be getting another one towards the end of the month. Another great source is Vickie Dachi @ dachiu.com (Bearded Dragons & Other Creatures). She gives personal hands-on & will really help you find exactly what you're looking for. LOL with your search, Teresa (TBK Dragons).

fire and ice has very nice dragons...i have never bought from them personally but from what i have seen they are beautiful healthy dragone

dragons den also has very nice dragons, when possible going there and handpicking your dragon is best.

GREAT !!!

thanks everyone... looks like I HAVE some good sources to choose... from... only thing is I live in Brookyln, NY... so going to hand pick them might not be possible... but if these breeders are as honest as they all seem to be I know I wont be disappointed...

just let them know exactly what you are looking for and when possible get individual pictures.

sending the money. Also, checkout the parents.

I got several juvies from Saphire Dragons. I was told that they were not screamers but their color would come out at about 1 yr old. When I got them they looked almost like normals not reds. when they turned 1 year old the got a good deep red color with orange highlights. The Dragons I got from Kevin at Dragons den didn't fire up until they were about 4-5 months old. and the sandfires were over a year old when their color came in. Also remember that if you get a young colorful dragon... thay may dull out and not hold those colors into adulthood. As has been mentioned, look at the parents as a general guide.
