External Canister Filters

HopeMarie Mar 06, 2005 01:17 AM

Right now i am using a whisper in tank filter and it takes up a lot of space in the tank. I was thinking of getting an external canister filter where one 2 tubes just remain in the tank, one taking the water out and the other pumping the filtered water in. What would be the best brand or kind? Anyone use these?

I have the Zoo Med 501 Turtle Filter in my 20 gal. turtle tank. It works pretty well, but needs to be cleaned every week or so... looking for something better myself. Good luck in your search!

I have had really good luck with both the fluvals and the cascade canister filter. Get the largest one you can, you will definately not be disapointed.

Did some more research last night and i think i will be getting the Eheim profesional series II external canister filter. It is self priming and from all the reviews i've read, extremely quiet. It costs a lot more but out of all the top quality external filters that i've read reviews on so far, this one has the most praise.

Here is a link below to the product info on the petsmart page if you want just a basic overview.

I just got a Fluval 304, at a really great price(about half off)
from Amazon.com. It does an amazing job for the money!!! My water is crystal clear all the time. I just scoop out the floaties with a net from time to time. I really like the filter! Canitsters just work much better.
