This is all Lassiters fault.........................

Eimon Mar 06, 2005 05:11 AM

Hey John, thanks alot for sending me the pics of some of your mexicana. You're an evil influence!.....LOL. And the rest of you haven't helped either with your darned posts. I went to a store that I sell mice to, expecting to receive the usual cash in the pocket. They happened to just get in 2.1 adult thayeri. I left owing them more money (mice) next week. I couldn't believe the size of the first pair, and the orange milksnake phase was just too clean and nice to pass up. The female is over 3 feet, with the male easily 3-1/2. Isn't that unusually large for thayeri? I've got to be more careful of which forums I look through.

Male Peach/Orange Phase

Female Buckskin/Orange Phase

Male Orange Milksnake Phase

BTW- if any of you consider either of the first pair a different color/phase, please let me know. I'd like to be as accurate as possible. I'm thinking June/July just got a lot more interesting!

GOOD JOB JOHN! LOL!!!

Happens easily doesn't it Eimon?!! You did a wonderful thing by picking up that reverse trio of thayeri and I don't think you will be sorry you did! Lucky for you I don't have time to sit here and post pics of the 38 thayeri I have here... not to mention the thayeri photo collection I keep(44 folders, 931 files and growing!). Yeah... I got it REAL bad. Between John and I, we would have you pullin' your mexicana hair out over there! lol!

Your trio looks fantastic, and healthy! They are quite large, but I wouldn't say unusual. As you know, snakes really never do stop growing, they just slow down considerably when reaching maturity but they do have certain limits. Mose descriptions you will see will state adult thayeri size as being anywhere from 24 to 38 inches. In captivity if fed well, they can be somewhat larger.

Don't thank me...........thank the Thayeri. There is not an ugly one around.
And 38 Mike????? I thought I had it bad. I ONLY have about 30 right now......LOL
If you are talking about Mexicana in general I have well over 60.
And Eimon those are pretty and pretty darn big as well. I have 3 adult Thayeri over 3 1/2 feet. Most of them are closer to 3 feet as adults, but they do never stop growing. I also have some of the largest alterna I have seen measuring 47, 48 and 50 inches.
Eimon if you email me that picture next to the ruler I could tell you a pretty acurate measurement using Serpentwidgets.

I've almost intentionally tried NOT to get any thayeri, just because of that! But, it hasn't really been any different with anything else I have. If you count Graybands into the mexicana complex, (like they used to be) I only have about 20. About half or less than some of the other groups I have, but I'm sure that will change!...LOL. The 2 big ones are too healty, so they'll get a little diet feeding for a short while. They are supposed to be cooled and ready, so we'll soon see how well they like each other. I sent John another pic, and we'll see what the widgets has to say about size.

I am glad to have influenced your addiction further......LOL!
I think the snakes do it by themselves.
Those are some nice ones to say the least and you have labelled them exactly as I would have. And yes a Summertime Christmas is coming your way.
Great score! Nothing beats the variation of a Thayeri.

Eimon,
Are you by chance J. Vankirk?
Russ

Nice thayers..oh yeah..you're hooked bro

Eimon Mar 10, 2005 04:30 AM

Hi Russ, how's it going. No, I'm not that bald Rosy loving fool......LOL. Actually though, we are very good friends. And your friend Little Stevie says hi! Do you have these damn mexicana things too? How bad is this going to get.......hehehe

Rick Millspaugh Mar 10, 2005 11:51 AM

You can never have just one! In fact, you can never have enough; they are all different. You need at least one of each type but since there are an infinite number of types, you can never stop. It is a sickness and you have it. You should probably dump the Alterna now to make room for more (LOL).
Be careful with any large breeders you find in stores, I had a similar experience last year with a very large nice looking female. She laid one or two eggs every couple of days for a week and never in the nesting box, she had. She would spend all her time in the box then leave it to lay an egg. The few I found in time were not fertile anyway. I gave her to a kid. I figured out why she was at the petstore.
Take care, maybe I'll see you at one of the SD herp meetings.

Eimon Mar 10, 2005 06:15 PM

Hey Rick, thanks for nothing!......LOL. The thayeri got there from a local person that breeds snakes. Actually, they got out of reptiles, and the whole collection was obtained. The store is reptile specfifc, not generic "pet." However, one always takes a chance with animals with lesser known histories. I know from my experience that it seems that mexicana do much better on the thin side, as opposed to fat, especially alterna. So I intend to apply that concept to the thayeri. I think I'll get a few this year, but they may need this season to get "down" into shape......hehehe. Hey I better see you at a meeting, and join the Society. If you do, I'll show you the Boas around your place!...LOL. BTW- are you going to Del Mar this weekend? If so, I'll see you there.

I have been a member for years, my membership may have just expired though, I forget easily. I may go to the show, not selling this time though, nothing left. Last years March show was not real thrilling.
Hey I can try to make myself available if you and Jason want to come over and look for boas on the hills, I need someone to show me what I'm doing wrong, I'm almost getting tired of flipping C. ruber. Jason could probably just sit at the bottom of the hill and point to where they are (LOL), he has that sixth boa sense.
