Gargoyle420 here is some info about Elaphe Dione!!!!

wim Mar 06, 2005 06:59 AM

Hi,

I am Gidi and 16 years old. My dad and I have some Diones and breed with them.
-Temps?
We keep most of the diones on 24 degrees at day time and 17 at night.

-Feed schedules?
We feed them 2 times a week but the young ones and in mating season 3 times a week.

-Any problems with regurges?
We have no problems with that, but you must know to if the snake is about to sheding don't feed here otherwise she would regurg it.

-Any feeding problems at all?
The Elaphe Dione is a very easy snake to keep. And they eat very very good. When they hatch they eat almost directly afther first shed.

For more queations you can mail us. (wim.van.de.belt@wanadoo.nl)

See our site for some nice pictures. For example the high red and the black ones !!!!!

Best regards Gidi

Gidi, I hope you don't mind me adding to your post, but I don't want the new info I posted below to get lost, so I'm going to add a link here. Also, I agree with you with feeding more than once a week sometimes, depending how much food each time. Sometimes with babies or breeding adults, in spring, I'll increase the feedings to twice a week. But I only have South Koreans, whereas you have many different forms of dione.

This is an aberrant 2002 female, that has a light background and a reduced pattern. She also has some curious dark specks on the head and seems to like more heat than the others...

I hope interest in dione is better in Europe than here in the States. I'd love to see some of your pretty color forms over here.

Regards...Terry

Terry, you have any very nice snakes including the south korean dione. I like to see your post with the nice diones. So I completly don't mind if you add some info. It help me anyways. We have indeed many diones but you have te experience. We always can learn from you.
We have only two males of south korean and we like to have some more females. And does somebody knows how to get Rhynchophis boulengeri eat by it self. p.s. We have not live rodents (mother, sisther )

Gidi, thanks for the generous remarks. I always love to see the work you're doing also with all the dione you have.

I do not keep boulengeri, but know a little about them. Do yours take fish on their own? If so, I would try scenting pinks.

Can you post a pic of your South Korean? Thanks...

Terry

Terry,

Our R. Boulengeri don't take fish. I force feed them once a week. They are doing fine but are a little tiny. I hope they start eating themself that would be much better.

We have two S. Korea Dione males.
Click on the link and then on "Korea"

Best luck to all with you in the starting breed season.

My male boulengeri prefers live rosey red minnows splashing in his water dish or on tongs, but I have been able to get him to eat very small pinks (both live and f/t) when offered just after a fish and scented with the fish. I have to do the "bait and switch". The breeder used guppies with the hatchlings. My female eates f/t pinks with no trouble.
I read on another forum last week that someone was feeding their boulengeri tadpoles (they didn't say what kind) and they said that was their natural food as small snakes. They felt that feeding mice was not healthy for the snakes. I haven't seen any other supporting information on that, but you might want to give it a try if you can find small tadpoles.
I do hope you can get those little snakes to eat on their own. Try the small fish in the water dish and see if they show interest in them.
