Stretched Out Pic

Ben_Renick Mar 06, 2005 10:07 AM

Here's a picture of him (green x yellow) stretched out, of course he has to pee right before I take the picture, but oh well. He still is the most squirmy thing I have seen, but at least he hasn't snaped at me for awhile, just jumped a lot. By the way, he does kind of look like he might be filling out like a she, maybe Kelly could help me out on this one, do males fill out like that? I'm going to get it sexed, it's just going to take probably 3 people to do it, so it becomes just a little bit harder to do. BUT also, I posted below, if anyone knows any stores or good websites to help put maybe a fake vine or a big log in the cage, that would be super help to me.

Ben,
Male anacondas typically do not have near the girth of a female of equal length but they can become fairly heavy if well fed and may sometimes approach the girth of a healthy female of similar length in a captive environment, especially older males. It would be difficult to tell the sex of a captive raised anaconda from a photo unless the snake was obviously of too great a length to be a male. This snake looks close to 8 feet and it should be fairly easy to sex by spur size and structure. A male of this size will have very obvious spurs that will be completely visible and external without having to push any scales out of the way. On a female of this size, you will need to manually push the scales around the spur back and out of the way to make the entire structure visible. It sounds like the process could be fun with this one. Good luck.

Kelly
