New "Toys" for Gypsy.....

Schizmsgrl Mar 06, 2005 12:03 PM

Hey everyone!! Just wanted to tell ya all that I ordered a few things offline for my Gypsy...First off I bought one of those Habi-scape rock walls, and also a matching rock ledge for inside her tank. I have to say it was a great investment, she truely loves them!! She has been climbing all over the wall, and she likes to get right up under her basking light.

I was going to just order her one of those background thingys until I found these realistic rock walls, so I got that instead, and boy am I glad I did!!

I am sure that some of you must already have one (or at least know what i am talking about), but if not I would definatley recomend it over those plain ol' backgrounds that the lizard cant use!

I also bought a new ceramic clamp lamp. And of course I got all of this stuff at a fraction of the price I would have payed at the petstore!! Man I love online shopping!!!

Last week my hubby and I went to the local petstore to check out their lizards, and they had some baby beardies in...Very tiny ones indeed, only about 2 inches long snout to tail!!
I so want one, but my hubby wants me to wait for a while before we get anymore pets. For one thing we are taking in my friend from works Leo when she goes away to college(or maybe sooner) scince her mom hates it and wants her to get rid of it....Her Leo (Geiko) is sooo adorable, he is constantly licking his lips with his tongue (do they all do that?) Jus wondering...

Anyhow, just really wanted to tell you guys bout my new toys I got for Gyp, and how much she seems to be enjoying them!

Talk to yas all again soon,
Take Care, ~Schizmsgrl~

One lucky little agama lady I would say!

Yeah they love to climb, I keep my black agamas in a screened cage because they love to climb the sides, top, everywhere, utilize every inch.

So I'm sure she loves her new wall. Thats NICE.

Good to hear shes enjoying herself and most importantly YOU guys are enjoying having lizards

The leos do that with the tongue. They are awesome also, you will get hooked when it arrives.

Bet before long you will be into keeping leo's. They come in so many beautiful patterns and colors, its truely amazing.

My bearded dragon Auggie just died in Jan this year. Bummed me he was 6 years old. He was really cool, but very very lazy when adult. We loved him and laughed about his laziness.

When they reach adulthood most just SIT look cute and eat.

Happy Herping kido!

PHEve / Eve

She is a spoiled little lizard indeed! wouldnt have it any other way!!

But there is one problem I have found with this rock wall, and thats there's a space on each side of the wall bout 1/2 inch or so, that the crickets are able to climb into and hide...grrr

Once they get in there I cant get them out, so now I have a problem with her food hiding on her! doh!

I was wondering if I could use that black electrical tape to tape up those cracks? Or what I should use? I dont want to use anything that might be toxic when heated. Any input will of course be appreciated!

Also, I know whatcha mean bout those Leo's Eve, I can see where they might be "addicting". I am already pretty much addicted to reptiles scince we've gotten gyp, they are jus the coolest pets!
Wish I woulda got some long before this.

I have been doing some reseach on breeding Leo's, and keeping eggs, told my friend that maybe this winter I would get a girlfriend for her Leo and try for babies!! Who knows!!

And I am really sorry to hear about Auggie, thats a real bummer....I hope that someday in the future I will have myself a baby beardie to add to my collection!! When we bought gypsy, we were actually looking for a beardie. The petstore had "bearded dragons" advertized outside, but when we got inside they told us that infact they didnt have any beardies, they had agama-agamas.
And gypsy was so cute we couldnt resist!! So thats how we got her.
Still trying to figure out what type of lizard she REALLY is tho....LOL

Anyhow, I have rambled on long enough, like usual!!
Talk to yas all again soon, and take care! ~Schizmsgrl~

I would definitely *NOT* use electrical tape in Gypsy's tank.
What you can use is aquarium sealant which comes in a tube
like a tube of toothpaste. You can buy it at your local
petstore or online.
If you will be needing to remove the rock wall in question
whenever you do a thorough cleaning of Gypsy's tank, you can
remove the rock wall from Gypsy's tank, wipe it clean and dry
and then apply a thin layer of aquarium sealant to the spot
where the crickets are escaping through. You may need to wait
for the first thin layer(s) of aquarium sealant to dry before
applying another layer(s) in order to get the desired thickness
to close up that gap. Also you may need to *VERY CAREFULLY*
use a very sharp utility knife or box cutter to trim down the
layer(s) of aquarium sealant you've applied to the rock wall
to get as close and snug a fit as you can estimate is needed
and will look unnoticeable. (I've spoken with Gypsy and she
has told me that she does appreciate it when you make sure
you do only quality work in her home! ). Hope that helps.
Good luck. Peace.

Thanks Lizard~King for responding to my post!

I am going to the petshop tomorrow anyhow, so I can pick some of that sealant up. I havent done anything to it yet, cause i wasnt sure what to use.

And yes I am going to have to remove the rock wall on occasion so i can bleach out her tank, is that stuff's hard to remove?

Thanks again, and its good to hear that you also have the pleasure of speaking with my darlin' little gyp!! LOL

Take Care, ~Schizmsgrl~

Yes, *it can be* hard to remove so you should remove the rock
wall from Gypsy's tank and do the work on the rock wall, like
I explained, and only after the sealant on the rock wall has
dried completely should you put it back in Gypsy's tank. That
way there will be no sealant on the inside wall(s) of Gypsy's
tank and she will be satisfied that your work meets her very
high standards which she, like I said, has told me is "very
important" to her.

Yep! Us lizard folk generally understand each other. Lizard
talk ya know.

BTW, did you scroll down all the way on my original reply to
you? Oh, I'm a kidder! Have a good one, Schizmsgrl! Peace.
