Pics of my 20 gallon long, and it's plastic inhabitants. Nothing seems to want to stay alive in this tank but the plants

The first steps in setting up my 55gallon Paludarium. The PVC is cut to 7" high. I want more of a "fishtank" type with some land and a waterfall. The front of the "land" will be covered buy submeresed corkbark that will be at least 8" in height. That way, it covers over the edge of the eggcrate not only hiding it, but also holding in substrate. I plan on cutting a "cave" hole out of the corkbark to allow fish to swim underneath the land, pretty cool huh? The backround will most likely be corkbark, and that desert backdrop will be removed Yes, I KNOW I need a better top, that thing is very old!
