help with lethargic leopard!

mykl Mar 06, 2005 07:49 PM

i noticed that one of my 3" leopards is always sleeping. he keeps his eyes shut even if i bug him. he only opens them and walks for a while when being soaked. i got him with two other leopards and the rest are ok and feeding well. he's the heaviest in the trio. i've seen him walk for a short moment when i put them outdoors but i've never seen him eating. he does not have any mucus coming out of his nostrils. i also noticed this morning that his feces was white with a gelatin consistency.

help!

First guess: temperature. Being exothermic, if the temps are too low, lethargy is the first sign. This would disproportionately affect smaller animals.

As far as the gelatin fecal output, that sounds like mucus that is common when an animal has GI parasites or pathogens. Or it could be something in his diet. More information is needed, but a fecal exam preformed by an experienced herp vet can easily rule out parasites.

...what are his condo set up?

I would give him a good soaking, collect a fresh fecal sample, and get him to a vet. I would suspect parasites, diet, or husbandry issues such as temp. Good luck!
