Late spring through most of the summer. The trick is that hogs are diurnal and so you generally have to go out looking for them during the late morning hours. Find an area with nice sandy soil and walk/drive quiet sandy roads in the mid to late mornings. Go slow if you drive because they can be hard to spot. Walking works just as well, but you can't cover the same distance.

I rarely find easterns under artificial cover, and mostly when I have found them there it has been at night.

I usually find them in the early evening out searching for toads-so I look for a "toady" area-with sandy type soil and for some reason-near blueberry bushes. (almost always)(I have no idea why)
