Are they simple recessive??? Are they more like Jungles were the exact genetics are unsure? Are they connected to Ebonies and if so what the hell are they?

Are they simple recessive??? Are they more like Jungles were the exact genetics are unsure? Are they connected to Ebonies and if so what the hell are they?
Kevin
Granites are dominate. When bred to yellowbellies they'll produce ebonies. Hope this helps.

Really? I still don't believe in them. Do you know of any links to info on granites or ebonies? Anywhere to see pics of ebonies?
Thanks for any help.
Kevin
I know theres one on the Snakekeeper web site. Truely beautiful snake.

I dont think that anyone can surely say that all granites are either co-dominant, dominant or simple recessive. I think that granites are very under estimated and I think, well I know that granites are going to have a lot more to do with morph combinations then many think. Granites are great animals and may turn out (the genetic ones) to be just as valuble as the yellow bellies. Hope this helps.

That is what I was thinking. So, as for now, they are not a understood or proven genetic morph. I agree they are nice and may lead to something once there genetics are understood.
Kevin
I beleive Ralph Davis proved them genetically dominant. I could be wrong it may have been another breeder, I'll have to check his website to know for sure.

Granites were listed on there morph page as dominate. So??????
I guess they are but still am having problems in the faith department for some reason. Can anyone resolve my doubts?
Kevin
basically buy from someone that has a proven line of granites if you want a guarenteed granite to make ebonies. If you are on a budget buy a unproven granite that looks as close to a proven line as you can afford. Now a little on the genetics, the reason that it is considered to be a dominant gene is that nobody has had a chance to breed 2 animals from the same line back to each other to see if there is a super form, if there turns out to be one then it will be a co-dominant gene, understand. remember there was a time that people said the pied gene could not be genetic and Pete laughed all the way to the bank on that one. the pic included is a ch 04 female at about 2 months old, she has a granite pattern but not very noticable in this pic, it has become more pronounced as she's grown. Probably not genetic but a nice looking snake all the same.

The link works: you have to COPY THE LINK and PASTE IT into the address bar. You don't just click it...

I am not able to copy it for some reason but I went to snakekeeper and found the pic of the ebonie. Seems like not many have worked with this yet.
Kevin
Seems to me like its the opposite of the Ivory...but that's just my opinion.

I think the only ones that have really gotten the ebony are the Southerlands and Amir (who, i think, if I'm not mistaken, also proved the yellow belly). I could be wrong. Someone has Amirs Ebonies on their website, but I'm not sure who it is, I remember seeing them a while ago, might have been taken at a show. Anyway - you have to have a true yellow bely and a true granite and as we know there are many fakes and look alikes out there.
Like most things in this industry the best breeder cannot convince you to invest into something you don't beleive in. So maybe working with granites just isn't your thing.

EBONY BALL AT THE SNAKEKEEPERS WEBSITE
They have some fancy code on their website that makes it hard to extract the url.
For more info go to[url=http://www.ballpython.com]Ballpython.com[url]. Tons of good info. But ya gotta have IE 6.0 or better and surf around a bit.

i dont think its 100% clear yet on what the genetics are, and what , if any the super form will be.(has granite to granite been done?) The ebony, could have been a fluke, or it could be something going on there.
I got my granite several years ago, from Glades herp here in florida.
I bred it last year to a normal and half look like daddy and one or two have a yellow belly appearance. Now im no yellow belly expert, by no means, that is a tricky snake to properly identify and if i knew someone near where i live who did, id have them take a look. Im not sweating it, it is what it is, when i breed daddy back to his daughters, then ill be able to better say whats going on. but for now, ill just keep my fingers crossed that i get lucky and the granite i have proves to be a true co-dominant snake.
if not, no big loss. Its all fun!
I have plenty of time to play with these guys. My granite gave me 5 girls last year, and im gonna breed all of them back to daddy. The 3 males didnt get the granite look.
Mike

Did any of your females look like the dad at all? I know I've seen your male since mine looks very similar. I got one that ended up looking a little like him.
dad
daughter
I have a female produced from a granite to granite pairing(pic below) and a male from a burgandy to granite pairing that came out showing both traits(burgandy granite). Granites have been proven.
