Desert Blend . . .

MajesticRose Mar 07, 2005 04:58 AM

I've been using Desert BLend for my Leos as a subsrtate, as I was told its safer to use than sand for the bigger guys. Is this true or is there something else I should use?? I hatethe look ofcage carpet, so I would prefer if there was something else. . . I saw something somewhere mentioning tiles?? Wouldn't they heat up too much with a heat lamp, and wouldn't that make an undertank heater inefficient???

Tiles are great, and if you are using a UTH, they don't really get too hot. And I think it depends on the type and color of tile you are using too. Darker tiles will get hotter if you are using a light heat source, obviously. Any type of sand to me is more of a pain, not just for health reasons. It's messy and no matter how much you vaccuum or sweep, it seems to stay.

you can get tile from any home depot or menards, i use the tile carpet and hate it, it is so hard to keep clean and there toes get stuck also when they go for prey they can get there teeth caught on it.
