15 rubidus eggs, so far..

epidemic Mar 07, 2005 07:57 AM

Well, my first rubidus female deposited 15 eggs into her nest box Friday night. One was a slug and another is questionable, but definitely no slug. Also, another of my female rubidus completed pre-lay ecdysis last night, so she should deposit her clutch within ten days.

Best regards,

Jeff

Thank you, Dr. G,

Only one egg turned out bad, the second one I questioned must have been deposited just before I found it, as it was still quite pliable, but has calcified quite nicely.
I now have 14 in the incubator, and I'm still waiting for the second female to drop.
I will post a picture soon. I'm still hoping to catch the second female in the act of laying, as I have not yet witnessed any of my female rubidus laying eggs, and hope to get a photo of this as well...

Congatulations! How many days from shed to laying eggs? Are eggs smaller in size than Eastern or Texas?

Jeff,

BIG congrats to you. RUBIDUS have been the unnatainable fruit for me for YEARS. Congrats and hope everyone of those suckers hatches. Post pics when they do, please. This is too cool..

Thank you, Fred,

Perhaps we can do something about making them more obtainable. That's what Gerald and I have been shooting for..

Thanks again everyone, I greatly appreciate the kind words!

Thanks Steve,

It was exactly 10 days post ecdysis when my first female deposited her clutch. Last year, my larger female deposited her clutch just seven days post ecdysis and I am currently waiting on her to drop.
Gerald and I discussed the size variance between eggs within the same clutch produced by both our rubidus females last year. It seems no two are alike, in size or weight, from the same clutch. For the most part, rubidus eggs are somewhat smaller then the eggs produced by couperi and erebennus, though a couple are almost the same size.
I will post some pictures when I measure them next week and you will get an idea of what I am talking about...

Best regards,

jeff
