"Normal" Jaguar Sibling....

Will Leary Mar 07, 2005 08:02 AM

Now this is a Normal Jaguar Sibling that has always intrigued me. Her pattern is unlike that of any Jaguar or Coastal Carpet that I have ever seen. She lacks what I would consider bands, stripes and other trademark coastal characteristics. Rather, she has numerous broken up "rosettes" (for lack of a better word). Most of them on the front half of her body are randomly scattered, while toward the tail they become more methodical. Here color is quite nice, too! I can't wait to breed her back to a Jaguar. Should be interesting!

And here is another Normal Jaguar Sibling for a quick comparison...

Will,

They do seem to come in a variety of patterns, eh? That one almost reminds me of a "hypo diamond cross" for lack of a better description. Thanks for sharing those pictures.

The possibilites seem endless.

Thanks! ...and yes, they do come in all sorts of yummy flavors. This girl came from the same clutch as your pair.

Cool beans! Maybe one (or both) of mine is hiding some of those genes too.

mattbrock Mar 07, 2005 02:29 PM

The mother of that snake is FAAAAAAR from Diamond.

Will Leary Mar 07, 2005 04:27 PM

Can you track down the Females genetics back to the original wild caughts from Australia? What about the ancestors of those founders? Same with the Jaguar line. You can only track them to a certain point, and after that you don't know. That animal could have distant Diamond Genetics and you would never know by looking at it

mattbrock Mar 08, 2005 06:10 PM

....with every generation that an intergrade is bred back to either spp. then the likelihood of the other spp having influence on the offspring diminishes. I agree with you, but Madam Blueberry(the mother of the snake in question) has more than likely never seen a diamond...neither have any of her relatives in the last few generations.

Eric,

It is obvious that nobody can claim to know everything about a given snakes "entire" genealogy, so I think it's safe to say that's not what I meant when I stated my position. My point was simply that neither side of this animals lineage is known to have any Diamond influence, which is a claim that has more of a basis than a statement that asserts the animal "does" have Diamond influence strictly on the basis of its appearance. By your own definition that is an unfounded position to take.

Will,

Was that one of your red babies?

Shawn

Will Leary Mar 07, 2005 04:28 PM

she was not one of the "reds." However, I knew right away she was different than the others.
