Is this normal?

PaulHemmerling Mar 07, 2005 10:27 AM

I cleaned my frogs habitat out this weekend and I think it stressed him out. He hasn't moved much, not that he ever did before, but he looks not good right now. I just wanted to know if it was normal and what I could do to avoid this stress. I only handle him when I clean and I place him in another 5 gal aquarium with nothing else in it, but only for like 15 minutes tops. Also, he had some poop, I think, dried to his belly closer to his vent and i washed it off with drinking water; did I take the right measures to clean him off? Thank you in advanced!

My frogs, as babies and as adults, have never stressed out that much when I handle them. I clean their tank once a week and they just keep acting normally during and afterward. Maybe it's because your frog is very young, it looks even smaller than my baby, and so it has the mentality of "everything is going to eat me!" If that's the case, it should hopefully get over it, hehe. Soon it'll be "I'm going to eat EVERYTHING!"

Good job on cleaning off the poop, that was the right thing to do. WTFs will absorb toxins through the skin (which is why you clean your hands before and between touching frogs) so getting that poop off was necessary if he couldn't do it himself.

You seemed worried about your baby not being fat. How much does it eat? Just to compare, my baby is about 1.25 inches and eats 2 large crickets every other day. He's a pig.

Oh and lastly, I've bought all my WTFs from Petco. The babies are CB, so no worries in that.

Goodluck!

thanks in advanced for the help!

I guess he must have been a little stressed because now he is happy again. I've actually never seen him look so green and blue!

Hehe, he's just plotting ways to fit you into his mouth when he is bigger.
