African Dwarf Clawed Frogs peas

mcdilll Mar 07, 2005 01:14 PM

I read that someone fed their frogs Sainsbury's Mushy processed Peas. I was wondering if I could feed my African Dwarf Clawed Frogs (tadpoles) that are about 2 weeks old peas. Can you any kind of canned peas and make sure that you mash them? I started feeding my tadpoles liquifry when they started swimming. I am feeding them live brine shrimp now but when I go out of town I need another alternative food for my friends to feed my frogs. At what age can you start feeding the tadpoles frozen blood worms?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I should imagine that mushy peas would foul the water VERY quickly?

Don't feed them that. African clawed frog tadpoles are filter-feeders and don't eat large pieces of anything.

Dwarf frog (Hymenochirus) tadpoles will not eat mushy peas. African clawed frog (Xenopus) tadpoles will. Dwarf frog (Hymenochirus) tadpoles are entirely carnivorous throughout their development. Try using frozen Artemia (brine shrimp) as a "convenience" food. If there's some water movement, like a gentle air current, it's possible that the tadpoles will take it.
