Some of the caging I have recently completed (Dialup Warning)

cornelius85 Mar 07, 2005 02:55 PM

I have been so busy with cages since the Fall show and I have more upcoming that will be new stuff that I haven't done before.
Here are some of the cages I have finished recently

Here is a rack I just completed for John Danyluik complete with 11" heat tape routered into the wood. Routering 11" out of the wood was a real pain and took forever, but now there should never be a worry about having the heat tape wear out from rubbing.

here is an incubator I built for Ron Au to his specifications. 2 4' rows of 11" heat tape controlled by 2 fan which are always on, and a helix DBS 1000 controller built into the incubator.

Here are 2 stackable enclosures I built for Nikki Langford who just moved here from England. They are built with the fake oak veneer melamine and will be housing a bearded dragon and a russian rat snake.

Here is a shot of some of the 12 enclosures that I built for Jim Dyke at A Dragons Tale. Stackable melamine enclosure with oak trim. 5 of the 12 have a removable divider for seperating specific dragons etc. They also all have internal lighting inside the cage.

This was a glass enclosure I built for Alex Chen. It was built to house his chameleon. there is a hanger in the top of the lid to hang a some sort of hanging plant.

Well thats it for now. I hope you like the cages. There will be more to come soon as other projects that are on the go are complete.

I like your racks, what materials did you use. I am currently looking for a plastic rack system. Also how much did that incubator cost as I am in the market for one also.

The rack was made with 3/4" G2S Birch Plywood sealed with Marine Enamel. It will work well but it is heavy.

The incubator was $700.00 CDN Including the Helix DBS 1000 and the heat tape.

Not familiar with this paint. Is it oil or latex based?

Can you give us some background on what herp applications you've used it on and how long it's held up?

Thanks, and I liked the pics.

Marine Enamel is an oil based paint that is very durable. I'm in Canada so I don't know if you have the store, but I get it from General Paint. i hate painting or staining, so I usually try and get the customers to paint the cages etc by themselves, but lately I have done 2 with the marine enamel. It is very durable and water resistant, but it off-gasses for quite a while once it is painted. Once it has cured there is no problems, but it definitely lasts better than a stain and clear coat.

I did one cage that I had to paint with it about 3 years ago and it is still holding us well as far as I know but that is the longest cage that I painted that I have to reference.

Hope that helped. Let me know if you have any other questions.

What is in this cage, how is it decorated, etc.?

Thanks.

From when I saw it last, there was no decorations in the cage. It was housing a boa, and he kept no decorations in the cage. The only thing in the cage was heat tape covered with aluminum, and the snake. He did the heating himself.
