Egg Questions? Please Help

palex134 Mar 07, 2005 03:14 PM

I have a female childrens python(97) and an adult male spotted python. They have been in the same cage for a while. How can I tell If she is Gravid. I think I have witness copulation a couple of months ago? Could she still be gravid? She hasn't been feeding and she hasn't lost any weight over the winter. What are some signs of a gravid python and when will she drop eggs if shes gravid?

Based on what you have posted, it seems possible that your snake may be gravid. If so, you should expect her to drop eggs in the next month or two. Get a lay box put together (foam fish box with a hole in the side, filled with damp sphagnum moss or similiar material), and put it on the hot spot or near it (depending on temp) and just wait. If she sheds in the next couple of weeks, count the days from her shed, at around 24 days or so she will lay her eggs. Make sure you have an incubator ready and set it to 87 degrees (I think that will work for those guys) and start counting the days, I think these guys hatch quickly, around 50 or so days? Not sure. Most of all, get a good book on pythons and read it, you can get some good info here at KS but every little bit helps.
Good Luck!
