i do wish that the supposed plan of the cites 2 listhad stayed in place , because with this mass imporation , even though its good for hobbyist , its horrible for these guys in the wild , im on both sides of this , i want them in the wild , and i also want them available for the truly dedicated hobbyist. just my 2 cents

You are aware they ARE listed CITES Appendix II, right?

It hasnt done anything but increase the import numbers, from what I have seen, and increase the price.

The problem is that most Uroplatus live in primary rainforest, nowhere else. So with the constant destruction of the rainforest for coal of all things, they have less habitat. One way or another, it doesnt look terribly good for them. Can you really have too much importation, when they will soon have nowhere to live? Its a losing situation all the way around.

researched anything about forest preservation and attempts at saving the rain forest? i just did a project on it in class and there are a few fairly good attempts at preserving atleast what is left. i believe the new president of madagascar is making some pretty good moves towards conservation and people throughout the world are also helping. the world bank along funded somewhere around a 40 million dollar grant, and someone along with that put down 8 million i believe. it was the largest grant ever to be issued for conservation ( i believe....) they're working on the second phase and if you look into it, it sounds like they may have a good start.

back to the point of removing the animals from their habitat when they'll likely be killed anyways.
i would agree, as of right this second it really doesn't matter how many we export, they'll all be dead and have no place to live within the next 10 years at the previous rate of destruction.
atleast this way there will be some fairly good captive breeding programs to help insure their survival, if not in the wild, atleast in captivity.

of what we were given, thats for sure.

We will pay, as you wipe out one species of anything, or habitat, there are negitive effects.

SAD whats happening. But I agree with Leah, they lose either way, but they are SURE to die there evenually.

it can't last forever. The rate rainforest are going and animals becoming extinct. Someday we will see there will be no imports. If you have a viable breeding program going with some of these natures most valued you may have the last. Bad thing is how many of those hundreds imported at cheap prices are going to their deaths with people and PET SHOPS that will kill them by various means. It is nice to see cheap prices but it is bad too.
