a few more waxworm questions

Nicko Jul 08, 2003 02:23 PM

So I just ordered some waxworms from wormman, so what I need to know know is how do you store them? I refrigerate my mealies, so is it the same for waxworms? Or do they just stay at room temp?

Also, do you need to gutload them or just give them right out of the container?

Since waxworms are only fed as treats and not the staple diet, gutloading is not nearly as important. You can still gutload them if you want to, it can only benefit the gecko. I would use the same gutloads for the waxworms as you use for mealworms. I do this sometimes and it works well.

To gutload waxworms use baby rice cereal, honey, plain yogurt and a cooked egg yolk make to a paste (not too runny or too dry).

You should refridgerate the waxies but gutloading them is hard...they only eat a special mix made of honey and bran which gets the waxies sticky. Just feed them right out of the container.
