Second attempt regarding pellets & hammock

koashmar Mar 07, 2005 03:49 PM

...as the first post didn't recieve any replies. Do you guys seriously not know? :D I'm hoping it just got lost between the others as I know sometimes happens on BB's.

Here goes again...

What weight/size BD can a reptile corner hammock safely hold. I don't really need specifics, just generalizations. My nearly one yr old BD loves to climb, but being the chunk he is, I'm worried the hammock will fall and hurt him. All I ever see in the posts here are of babies on them.

Second, I am going to try pellets mixed with veggies as he's a pretty open minded eater and will eat anything I put in his bowl. What brand of pellets are the best?

Thanks again

Hi,
I dont know the answer to the first question as I dont have an adult or a hammock but I do know the answer to the second question. Rep-cal pellets are the best (and only) pellets that should be given to BDs. The other brands have too much artificial coloring and stuff that isnt too good for them but rep-cal's are the only kind I ever see recommended by expert bd keepers. Good luck and hope I helped

Hammocks will fall, although my dragon's fall is about 4-6 inches and it doesnt hurt her any. I finally used a little crazy glue and the suction cups stay on.

I have two 11 month old BD's and they absolutly LOVE thier hammocks, but on occasion they do lose suction and fall, but my hammocks are little more than a foot off the ground, and my sand substrait ensures a soft landing. The hammocks can hold quite abit of weight, the larger ones are designed for juvi-iguanas and most BD's don;t get to the size of mid-sized iggy's.

As for the pellets, Rep-Cal is deffinantly the way to go. I've read of people raising very healthy dragons from hatchlings on jsut the rep-cal pellets, although i'd suggest mixxing it in with friut and veggies and make them like crutons in a BD salad :P
The pellets can be slightly costly to buy at a petstore, but you can buy them in bulk (a 5lb bag of of the stuff) and it's under $15 shipped, and it will last you atleast a year, if not longer.

Which size hammock would be best for a 55 gallon tank? I'm setting one up to get a BD next month, and wanted to include one.

Thanks!

I have two 55 gallon tanks, and you pretty much HAVE to buy a large hammock to fit in the tank.
