I had to put down my male C. vipera today as he was only getting worse. I discoverd in January he was paralyzed because of some degenerative disease/tumor in his lower Spine. He was a real pussycat, totally non agressive that fed very gently from forceps. When the female would get all pissy and start to "sawscale" he would look embarassed and submerge into the sand. I will miss him.

It's a funny world we create when we tell folks that these snakes are a "hobby" and we dont really consider them "pets", but when we lose one for whatever reason, it really gets to us. I've been there before, and whether it was preventable or not, it weighs on your mind for a few days.
It's hard to lose an animal that you develop a relationship with, whether it's just thru regular contact, or an actual liking towards one special animal. The sweeter animals tend to become closer to us easier.
It's always nice to have pictures like the one you posted Al, of the animals we've lost so we can look back and realize why were in this hobby to begin with. We really do appreciate these animals for what they are. We also appreciate you sharing the pictures with us.
Rest in peace little dude.......

Sorry for your loss Al. I've known some keepers (not neccesarily venomous) who don't seem fazed in the least when an animal dies, and that just boggles my mind. I view my snakes (and other animals) almost as children...I mean I nurture them, feed them, provide emotional support, try to teach them good morals, ...I'm kidding of course, but the sentiment is accurate, they are like children. And it's definitely tough when we lose one. At least he isn't suffering anymore.

RIP little C. vipera.

....try teaching that to a crocodile!! Forget it! IMPOSSIBLE! They are the lowlife's of the reptile world. No scruples! No integrity!! And I even ended up with one that has Turret's Syndrome!! Man....when he catches an episode of Croc Hunter, its like Movie Night with a bunch of sailors!!!
