biting each other

one of my turtles keeps biting the other turtle's back legs. theres actually an injury now and i had to seperate em.....
why does the other turtle do that??? i dont get it. been together there whole lives and this only happens now.....any ideas why? do i have to give one away? im very upset about thisl..... =*(

what sex are they? what size are they? What size tank are they in?

Some animals are fine with each other until they reach sexual maturity, then they start getting territorial, and (especially in the case of turtles) if they are not in a very large aquarium you can run into territorial issues. Maybe that is what is happening with your turtles?
