Leo setup

JAG Jul 08, 2003 02:56 PM

Right now I have my male leo in a 20 gal tank. He has one humid hide on the warm in and a log on the cool end. I am planning on buying a female leo in a week or so. I know I need to quaratine her for at least a month (minimum). I have a 10 gal tank for her. I plan on putting them together in a few months. Probably about 2-3 months. I was wondering whats the best way to set up the 20 gal tank. I would like to set it up in adavence so atleaast he is used to it before i put her in there and stress him out more. Pics would be lovely if not that is fine too. Do you gals/guys think that repti carpet is better than paper towels? I want to make it look more realistic than what it is now. All the help is welcome.

Thanks
Alicia

you should set it up just as it is now, but with more hides. repti carpet is easier, IMO, then paper towels, though i dont use it any more. all you have to do is take it outside, spray it will a hose, let it dry and put it back. don't introduce them both together, so they both feel like theyre in a new place and one isnt already set in it's ways.

So dont set it up before hand, or should i set it up so the male is use to it before she comes into it. I just think it might be stressful for him if i put him in a new enviroment plus add a female to his tank rather just one stressful thing at a time. The reason I ask about the carpet is because the crickets seem to hide under the paper towels now.

I would add another dry hide for the female but if the humid hide is big enough, then there is no reason for you to add another. Repti-carpet seems safe enough and looks nice so it would probably make a nice substrate. I also have added plastic aquarium plants to my 20 gallon long tank and my gecko, Beanie, seems to love to hide under the leaves behind her hide....I think it gives her a better sense of security. I would post pictures but my camera is out of batteries!
