Getting saucers for hides.........

MightyPython Mar 07, 2005 10:54 PM

I decided that I'm going to ditch the half logs I have and use plant saucers for hides instead. One question though for anyone on here that happens to use them. What size should I get? My BP is between 3 1/2 and 4 feet long. Want to get something he fits into tightly but dont want to get something too small either. If Anyone has experience with this on here, i'd greatly appreciate some advice concerning that. Thanks!

I think plastic works much better. We buy really cheap little trash cans at walmart (you can often find trash cans or buckets for a buck or two) and use the table saw to cut the bottom off a few inches up and turn it over. Then we drill a hole 2-3 in. around in the top (the bottom of the can). You've got yourself a hide thats easy to disinfect. You can use any size container based on the size of your snake. Just remember to file the sharp spots off the cut edge.

Hi,

I have been using the plastic terra cotta colored plant drip trays for years and they work great. I use many different sizes for many different sized BPs. I use a Dremel to cut a hole in the center, wash it off and then it is ready to go. Just make sure the entrance hole is smooth so the snakes don't damage its scales when it strikes at prey. Good luck.
