New baby american alligator addition

cmccartney Mar 08, 2005 01:03 AM

My friend just bought a baby american alligator and I just wanted to get some general information on what they need to make sure that he can take care of it properly. What kind of habitat should he set up for his gator? He's currently feeding it feeder fish and it seems to like that. Is there anything else that it needs to eat to make sure that it stays healthy? And any other good general information would be great. Thank you!

Feeder fish are a BAD choice of food for crocodilians. Try pinkie mice. Guppies are fine as well. Crickets with vitamin supplement are great as well. For the best possible care information as it is pretty obvious that noone really did any research BEFORE the purchase of the animal, here is a excellent link:

Also Chris Dieters book, "The Ultimate Guide to Crocodilians in Captivity" is available as well.
