HOW CAN I TAME HER!!!

RyanDonnelly Mar 08, 2005 01:02 PM

a colleague of mine had an iguana that he was trying to get rid of an with my chameleons and my love for the little guys i understand their needs and requirements (Not that the care is the same, but the amount of it) SO i decided i would take him off his hands after i saw her environment which was not very good. She is in good health but if kept in that condition she wouldnt be for much longer. But she is not the nicest little thing in the world and i want to know how i can start to tame her. I know that animals should not be kept as pets and that if shes not nice shes not nice but when i pick her up she is just to mean she tries to whip and she scratches so i could not even get her to feed from my hand. She is very nice when i pull her out of her bath should i try hand feeding her after her bath?? If anyone has any info that might help i would be very appreciativet thanks. Ryan

1)The first step to tame an iguana is to provide it all its basic needs in a way to make it happy in its own cage.
An iguana that doesnt feel confortable in its own cage will be an unhappy one and will become a wild one.

2)After making its cage as confortable as possible with a correct temp, correct food, correct level of humidity and correct size ( never a too small cage!) you have to show your ig youre its friend, not its competitor.Dont show to your iguana you are the alpha male and never force it to submit to you because iguanas dont like to submit to anybody or to anyone. It will always fight for the alpha position.

3) Talk to your iguana every day in a sweet voice.Never scream, hit or spank it.Touch it gently, kiss its snout, talk to it as it was a baby.Iguanas love that!

4) Give it time. Iguanas are wild animals and it will take time to become tame.

I do that all the time! Seems to do the trick. Iguanas really aren't violent creatures. They just want to be loved like little kids.

i would not sugest kissing your iguana on the snout. if it is not a tame iguana. i know if i did that to my new iguana she would bite my nose off. lol but i must admit i do give my other iguanas kisses on the nose. -brandy
