i have a tangerine dream honduran. i bought him at a show for $80. he a nice pet but hides 24/7. once in a while i see him out moving about his cage. he is going to be 2 years old in july and is probably close to 36" in length (give or take). i bought him because he was so pretty. when he was small he was very flighty and didn't like being held at all but has calmed down alot. :0)

i've only read there are 'tangerine dream' honduran so i'm assuming they are the same. unless a breeder wants to jump in and say something different. i have this photo i managed to upload but it was taken last year sometime so he's a little bigger now. i call him 'zorro'.

tangerine dreams were especially pretty tangerines bred by bill and kathy love when they owned glades herps. they coined the name to recognize their special animals, but other people would occasionally throw equally pretty tangerines. unkown to the Loves, the original tangerine they bought from a pet store carried the hypo gene and years later the first hypos hatched, in their collection, out of that "tangerine dream" line. But imho they could just as easily have come from a line of ugly tangerines, if the hypo gene had happened to occur in that sort of lineage.

Hi, milki, welcome to the forum. Hondurans are great. They're annoying as babies, like most milk snakes they'll bite, thrash, poop, but they grow out of it. Lots of neat color varieties as you know...these days you can get albinos or anerys for under 200 lots of times and hypos for close to that. But "special" kinds of them--tangerine albinos, for example, or tricolor hypos, etc., can cost 3-4 times more.

The first extreme hypos just appeared unexpectedly in mike falcon's collection, from "regular" hypo pairings (including pairings with his het/hypos). He says the first ones came out of at least one animal he got from me, yet none of them every showed up in my hypo breedings. So presumably he either put one of mine with one of someone else's having the necessary genes, or he bred one of mine that (unknown to all of us) had the gene or genes--we don't now yet exactly what the genetics are--and then bred it back to an offspring that got the gene or genes, and then they began appearing.

A few of them have reached maturity so we hope to see more breedings this year that could help sort out the genetics.

peace
terry
