Question about Charcoal for you old time breeders

cowtownherper Mar 08, 2005 03:40 PM

Ive always been qurious about the anery B gene. All i have ever read is this is the snake you need to produce Blizzard. I'm wondering how far did the early breeders test this gene. Did everyone just figure its a mimic of anery A with no yellow and move on to other projects, or was it really tested out with no great results. What Im getting at is if it can produce blizzards why cant this gene added to some of the newer morphs make something really interesting?

Good question!

Of course, there are a few more morphs available with charcoal involved than just blizzard. There are also the pewter (anery B crossed with bloodred stock) and the phantom (anery B crossed with hypo A...or B, C...or ???) corns.

However, I have never seen striped or motley charcoals, nor have I seen an attempt at getting charcoal mixed into the lavender, or caramel combinations. However, because those last two are believed to be possible forms of anerythrism themselves, I think most folks suppose the results wouldn't be worth the time or efforts involved.

>>Charcoal does not necessarily mean no yellow.
Charcoals (Anery B) can and do have yellow.
It seems to be less prevalent in Charcoals but they do have it.
I have seen people automatically assume an anery B to be an anery A just because there is yellow on the neck.
Yellow can also show up in blizzards.

Corn snakes and rat snakes..No one can have just one.

I hatched one in 2004. Unfortunately, it only lived three months. It hatched with a kink in the spine that grew and finally contributed to its death. I should get one or two more this year.

I know Rich has produced charcoal motleys and perhaps others have too. Shrug?

This picture is the a few hours after it hatched and then again after the first shed.

Thanks for the reply Don. Its always a pleasure to get a response from you. I'm sure your pretty busy this time of year. I Think a striped charcoal would be a pretty interesting project. My charcoal should be laying any day now. I bred her to my snow to test her out. If she does indeed turn out to be a charcoal I have big plans for her in the future.
