inkognito Mar 08, 2005 06:29 PM

Hi
Iv seen several of these "canary" chondros for sale lately in the US, and in Europe but here their called "kafiau".
Iv understod that its a spesific yellow locality, does anyone here know anything further about this ?

from what Iv found of locality data is supposed to be "Kafiau"?
its a small island about 3 hours boat ride from Sorong.

anyone anything on this subject?

Well I can't say as I know a whole lot about them either. What I've heard is that no one is really sure where they are coming from. One rumor is that they are coming from an island that the Japanese are logging and that when they find these yellow guys they export them. Which if this is true is really bad news. Seems they want to keep the where a secret.

They are really pretty where ever they are coming from.

I DONT KNOW BUCH ABOUT THEM EITHER, BUT JUST IN CASE YOU HAVE AN EXTRA $15,000 THEY ARE SELLING A PAIR ON WWW.[bleep].COM

AS I SAID I DONT KNOW MUCH ABOUT THEM, BUT IT SEEMS LOGICAL TO ME THAT THEY ARE NOT COMMING FROM ONE PARTICULAR PLACE... I THINK THIS IS JUST A COLOR PATTERN... SUCH AS BLUE...

BRANDON MIGHT BE A BETTER PERSON TO COMMENT ABOUT THIS

Well if you read all the posts from the www.bleep.com classifieds even he states thats it a locality...
the german vendor spesificly names the locality.
and Iv found another webpage with the same lokality "kafiau".. with a 2,5 years old animal 99% yellow just a few green scales.

they all share a similarity and thats a few scales that are green. when 3 people say they are a locality I think so.

But Id love to get some input from the big GTP guys on this matter.

There are several reports of LTC adults of this locality that have turned into normal green chondros after a few years in captivity. It would be nice to see if any of them stay yellow, but I recently sold an adult male that I think came from this locale. The animal was sold to me as a yellow adult, but turned green with a dusting of yellow over the head and some parts of the body. The overall look was very similar to these "Canary" chondros, but it did turn green. I'm not aware of any animals that have been in the U.S. for more than a couple of years that are still yellow. Let's hope the animals we have here now keep their color.
