Question about axanthics

wingert1 Mar 08, 2005 07:09 PM

I picked up a female ball last night from someone that had an add in the paper. She was free. When I got there I was dissapointed because she said she had her for close to 3 years and she was really small. Only 350g. Also she had retained shed and eyecaps. I checked her out and sexed her but like I said she had an old shed stuck to her. I took her home and soaked her for a few hours and got the old shed off with no problem. That is when I first really got a look at her. She is an Axanthic. She may not be genetic but there is no doubt she is at least visually axanthic. I will have to breed her out to proove her but my question is are the Axanthics that are not inheritable that pop up occasionally or do I have a good chance of her being a true gentic morph?

I know, I know. I will post pics as soon as I can

How much old shed did he have on him? Must have been a lot if you had to soak him to realize his color . I have heard stories of people that had a normal before a shed, but afterwards looked like an Axanthic.

I don't know, but I'm sure someone else knows more about it.

Yeah, she had most all her shed stuck on her. I really saved her I feel. She fed on a good size weaned rat for me tonight. I am very happy about this. As beat up as she looked at first I think she will be fine. A very nice snake for free.
