Breeding wild caught females

reptilesintampa Mar 08, 2005 07:35 PM

I was wondering if wild caught bloods (adults) will breed in there first year or two of captivity or do they need several years to aclimate first?

I have never personally worked with wild caught adults. But back in the late 70's and early 80's, when captive bred bloods were very rare, I knew a few people working with wild caught adults. They indicated that of the ones that did acclimate, these adult females in most cases would take 2 or 3 years to acclimate to the point of successful reproduction.

I think it may depend on the temperment of the females you are trying to breed. I have a wc that laid a perfect clutch of 18 in May of 04. She is exceptionally tame, and was bred to a very tame CBB male. That was after I had owned her for about 2 years.A friend of mine sucessfully bred a pair of wc albino adults, after he'd had them for a year or so. Then again they were both very tame. If you are talking about trying to breed wc's that hit the glass every time you walk into the room, that may be a different matter altogether.
