The idiots at the local pet store!! Reply please

steffenssnakes Mar 08, 2005 07:46 PM

Hey just wondering if you think these people at pet wonder (our local pet store) are as stupid as I think. They have this giant display enclosure at first glance looks amazing, with a water fall and the works. Then if you look again you realize all the different species in the same enclosure. At least 5 different species of chameleons, swifts, iguanas, a tortosie, a waater dragon, red eyed tree frogs, and other lizards I couldnt identify. And to top it off an emerald tree boa. I would like to report these people but I wanted to take some other opinions first... so reply please..
Thanks

Your reasons for questioning their judgement are correct, but it would not be a very "reportable" offense in my opinion. You need something more concrete, like no water, filthy conditions, etc before any action would be taken. What they are doing is making a poor CHOICE, but one that many will make. :d

yea, to have something be animal abuse they need to be not caring for their basic needs: food, water, shelter. i would say something to the manager at least, or the owner. they obviously don't know a thing about mixing different species together even though some folks do anyway.

I agree. I've worked in pet stores, and the people in charge often just pick whatever they'll get a high profit margin on. they may not have any clue that what they're doing is bad for the animals. chances are, they probably also don't CARE, but if you tell them that there's a good chance one or all of the animals could die of stress or from eating one another, you'll likely get them to make some changes, simply because they don't want to loose all that money they've spent on lizards/snakes. It's a sad situation, but you'll notice I said I HAVE worked in pet stores...won't do it again.
