BRB behavior question?

Uncloudy Mar 08, 2005 08:30 PM

My BRB is a 1.5 years now. I noticed right at this age or a little bit before she has become very active. It's great, I see her every other night or every night out crusing her cage when I turn the lights on the room to look or get her out. Also, during the day and the light is on in the cage she will occasionaly have her head hanging outside of her hide. Now the only times she really stays hidden is about the 48 hours after feeding and during a shed cycle.
I never knew my BRB would end up having this type of behavior because for over a year she was seclusive and hidden 95-98% of the time. It's a total 180 degree change in behavior from when I got her as a small baby. I don't think I ever read anything about BRB's doing this after their first year either. This is an awesome change.
I wondered if anyone else had any similar experiences raising their BRB from babies?

Hmmm, I have not experienced behavioral changes, but my BRB has always been as active as you describe. I think if you have their "climate" right and their bellies full, they are happier, comfortable, and more likely to be active. Just m opinion, though, not scientific or expert knowledge. I have noticed when Eve's habitat gets too dry or too warm her activity comes to a complete halt.

Noel,
My BRB has been in the same cage for about a year with temps, humidity, and everythings been the same. You are right that those factors do cause a change in behavior and can tell you alot about your BRB and how they are doing good or bad.
I just think at about 1.5 yrs when she got over 4 ft long my BRB became more confident. I've had the same thing happen to some of my colubrids (kings and corns) as they grow into a juvenile and feel more sure of themselves and don't view everything as much as a threat around them.
Happy Herping,
Uncloudy
