Parthenogenesis? As in virgin Birth?

snakepimp Mar 08, 2005 09:05 PM

I just had a Phelsuma grandis, I think, (the big Phelsuma spp.) lay an egg. She has never been with a male before.
Do they often lay infertile eggs?
I rescued this one from a pet shop, and it has been living with my male Crested Gecko in a 55 gal planted vivarium.
I don't know anything about their breeding husbandry, but I gues I'll have to get a male. She has huge calcium stores. And, boy is she feisty...

Of course it's my opinion, I said it, didn't I?
Breeding season is always just around the corner....JOY!!!

Do you know how old she is? Usually they will lay a first clutch of infertile eggs signifying they are of mating age. I have found that (at least in P.standingi), they dont lay on a cycle (like every month or 2 thru the year), just during the breeding season. If she's not with a male she may not lay any others.
