First crestie hatchling...and a sad surprise

LizardMom Mar 08, 2005 09:16 PM

Just had my first egg hatch last night. The second egg had pipped by the time I went to bed. This morning, still no baby, so I opened the egg. Fully formed tiny crestie with a perfect tail, two perfect back legs, a perfect body, two perfect front legs...and two perfect heads! I find myself wondering if, had I opened the egg last night, it might have survived.

So part of me is very happy, and part of me is a bit sad.

it would still move quite a lot after opening if it was alive, even 2-4 weeks premature they move around

Here's a picture of the surviving hatchling. They're so cute!

Wow! From the look of it, that ne seems to have survived for awhile. How long did it live? I'm curious if the two heads had to 'cooperate' to eat, etc.

I pulled this guy out of an egg, stillborn. Only one head is fully formed, the other is lacking a bottom jaw, so unless suction feeding is an option, I would guess that the fully formed one would outcompete the other, had it lived.
