How hot is too hot?

AlteredMind99 Mar 09, 2005 08:46 AM

I've been struggling to stabalize the temps in my beardies tank ever since i moved her into her 90gallon. It was a little tough to heat because its so tall, so for awhile it was too cool. Now i have a higher wattage bulb on there and the digital thermometer reads that it is 130degree's in her basking spot. (that is the temperature right on her basking branch, the air temp is slightly lower). Is this too high? I have seen some people in here recomened temps up to 140 degrees? I just want to make sure she is comfortable. The tank is plenty long enough for a good thermogradient, and the far end of it has no heat source at all, and has a cinder block which stays nice and cool.

Since i switched the bulb my Hannabil hasn't been basking much, but its hard to say if thats because she is too hot because she tends not to bask as much in the winter anyway...

Sorry this was so drawn out, just wanted some imput, does anyone think that temp is too high?

130F on the basking spot is too hot. It shouldn't exceed 115F. The best thing to do is either lower the basking spot, or raise the basking light till you have the ideal temperature on teh basking spot. Or, lower the wattage of the bulb.

Thanks! I thought it sounded a little toasty, I actually just turned the temp down in my house and now the "belly temp" on her branch is 115degrees.
